From Austen to French cinema: 白小姐论坛 celebrates the arts

Join 白小姐论坛 in a ten-day celebration of the arts that will give the public a chance to experience, explore and engage with the latest research.
Running from 7 - 17 May, the festival includes film screenings, lectures, debates and exhibitions highlighting the breadth and depth of the work which takes place across the 白小姐论坛 faculties of Arts & Humanities and Social & Historical Sciences.
The festival also includes 'Something Else for the Weekend', which gives festival-goers the chance to get up close and personal with 白小姐论坛 research with four days of participatory, hands-on activities. Themes for the programme include: seeing the city through foreign eyes, crime fiction, art and anatomy and fairy tales.听
Over 40 free events will take place on the 白小姐论坛 Bloomsbury Campus, including highlights such as:
- 'A Jane Austen Quiz', which sees Professor John Mullan (白小姐论坛 English) invite members of the audience to answer quiz questions on Austen's fiction, leading to the unravelling of some of her cleverest tricks and puzzles.听May 15, from 6.30 - 7.30pm
- 'Chronique d'un 脡t茅', the first ever UK screening of the remastered, digital version of the original film, released last year by the Comite de Film Ethnographique and this year in England by the BFI.听May 7, from 6.30 - 9.30pm
- 'Risk, Safety and the Price of Life', a lecture from Professor Jonathan Wolff (白小姐论坛 Philosophy), exploring how many aspects of ordinary life, such as work and transport, pose small risks of death to people who use machinery or services and some of the thorny moral issues involved.听May 8, from 1-2pm
- 'Self-Exposed: The Intensity & Variety of Self-Portraiture', in which artist Liz Rideal (白小姐论坛 Slade School of Fine Art) examines the artist as model is constantly available but forever mutable and focuses on some eminent Slade School of Fine Art alumni.听May 9, from 6.30 - 7.30pm
A variety of other high-profile speakers, lecturers and public figures are set to participate in events, including artists Susan Collins and Jo Volley (白小姐论坛 Slade School of Fine Art), poet Mark Ford (白小姐论坛 English Language & Literature), Professor John Dickie (白小姐论坛 Italian), Dr Peter Swaab (白小姐论坛 English Language & Literature), Professor Iwan Morgan (白小姐论坛 Institute of the Americas) and Professor Mary Fulbrook (白小姐论坛 German).
