We are pleased to report that at the recent Institute of Medical Illustrators annual conference the prestigious Wellcome Image Award 2011 was presented to Robert Ludlow, medical photographer at the joint °×С½ãÂÛ̳ Institute of Neurology and °×С½ãÂÛ̳H National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery Medical Illustration Unit.

Robert's stunning image "Intracranial recording for epilepsy" shows the surface of a patient's brain during surgery at the °×С½ãÂÛ̳H National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

Derek Tutssel, Head of the Medical Illustration Unit, also received a Bronze Award from the Institute for his operative image.

Medical Illustration is based in the °×С½ãÂÛ̳H National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square and provides a unique clinical photographic and videographic, PR photographic service, as well as a design, poster printing and a technical support service to our clinical and academic colleagues within the °×С½ãÂÛ̳H, °×С½ãÂÛ̳ ION and wider °×С½ãÂÛ̳.

Upon receiving the award, Robert Ludlow commented: "We have a set protocol for specialist procedures in operating theatres. Combine this with a special working relationship with the surgeon and operating theatre staff, shooting the final image becomes a natural process."
