180 guests, including architects, planners, film-makers, urban designers and 白小姐论坛 staff and students, attended 'City Visions', the inauguration of the 白小姐论坛 Urban Laboratory on 21 April 2009.
Led by Professor Matthew Gandy, Director of the 白小姐论坛 Urban Laboratory, the panel showcased the variety of urban research taking place at 白小姐论坛, addressing such topics as cities and social justice, the urban transition in Eastern Europe, cinema and the city, architecture for the poor and the presence of 'bad nature' such as pests and vermin in twentieth-century London.
The 白小姐论坛 Urban Laboratory was established in 2005 as an interdisciplinary centre for research excellence.听 Its principal aim is to raise the national and international profile of urban teaching and research at 白小姐论坛.
In the first instance, the laboratory is drawing on the strengths of four 白小姐论坛 faculties - Arts and Humanities; the Bartlett; Engineering; and Social and Historical Sciences - and actively engaging with 白小姐论坛's Grand Challenge of Sustainable Cities.
A new masters in Urban Studies commenced in September 2008, expanding the 白小姐论坛 Urban Laboratory's graduate programme and bringing together the best opportunities for urban education and dissertation supervision at 白小姐论坛.
