It replaces the original long-term resident Indian bean tree, which was felled on 14 March 2006 due to being rotten to the core and, therefore, a safety risk.
Tony Overbury (°×С½ãÂÛ̳ Estates & Facilities) supervised the delivery and planting of the new tree. At 20 years old, it is a semi-mature tree, which was shipped from Germany to fill the space left by its predecessor.
Parts of the original tree were given to two groups of scientists at °×С½ãÂÛ̳ for experimentation, and to other members of the °×С½ãÂÛ̳ community to keep as mementos.
