London is home to the UK's largest university archaeology department and on Saturday 17th July it is open to the public as part of National Archaeology Day.

This one-day event will give visitors hands-on experience of archaeology as well as showcasing collections rarely on view to the public. Everyone is welcome at the Institute of Archaeology, °×С½ãÂÛ̳, 31-34 Gordon Square, London WC1H 0PY between 10am and 5pm.

Short talks for adults and older children
• Archaeology in London.
• Feeding the pyramid builders.
• Recording and studying archaeology.

For adults, families and younger children there will be all sorts of 'drop in and join in' activities:
• Roman Property: Bring in your own finds and have them identified by our resident expert
• Tour of our conservation labs: See what's involved in conserving and restoring objects for display in museums.
• Animals in archaeology: Where zoology and archaeology meet.
• Bones: Death and Disease Identify age, illnesses and ancient working practices from our archaeological bone collection.
• Ancient Communication: Experience the different ways that people have communicated and discover what modern languages can tell us about the past.
• The Archaeology of Africa: From metals to pots - technology that changed the world!

All activities are free with no need to book
